Basic Anatomy

Obscura bodies are made up of membrane. Said bodies contain gasses that are pulled in and burned off by a single star-like nucleus to help power the body. In most cases, the head and ears will be completely detached from the body. The nucleus pulls these parts (and any cut limbs) together so they don't go flying off into space. That being said, they still "float." Their body colors are usually completely uniform. This means that their body, tails, and extra extremities like wings, are all one color. (Colors can gradiate from one color to the next.)

False Face Anatomy

This allows the skull to be attached to the body via the membrane in the skull melding with the body membrane. The term "false face" refers to the oddly structured membrane underneath the skull. It looks as if there's a second face hiding beneath, which has lead to many scary stories about obscura with this sort of anatomy.

Deafened Anatomy

Obscura with this anatomy never grew out of their body's membrane, because of this, their skull is covered in a thin layer of membrane that prevents them from communicating with other obscura normally. Instead of flashing pictures, ideas, sounds, etc. to other obscura via telepathy, they must either learn sign language or a written language. However, this means they are immune to beast ravings (when beast obscura invade others minds with violent or random images, ideas, sounds, etc. and there's no way to block it,) which has lead some deafened to try and rehabilitate docile beast.

Head

Obscura brains are encapsulated by membrane, granting them full, conscious control of it. This keeps them connected to their oracle and grants them the ability to communicate via telepathy. Unfortunately, sickness can destroy the brain slowly and cause this control to degenerate rapidly. It can also melt the surrounding membrane, causing it to leak from the skull. (See: Caine.)

Nucleus

The nucleus sits in the middle of the chest, inside the body. It does not sit on top of the body and it is a 3-D object, not a 2-D one. Just think of an orange inside a big ball of jello, no matter how you turn it, it always stays in the center of that jello.

Hands and Feet

Mostly free rein as long as there's five fingers and three toes. Legs also don't have to be digitigrade, BUT the feet must always have some sort of paw pad.

Heights

Workers: 5 ft to 12 ft.
Beasts: 5 ft to 15 ft.
Healers: 5 ft to 9 ft.
Oracles: 7 ft to 10 ft.

Life Span

Workers and Healers can live for thousands of years, while Beast maybe live for only a few hundred before their bodies give way to the black hole. Oracles are essentially immortal. That being said, any obscura can die from bodily harm, such as having their nucleus or brain destroyed.

Diet

Obscura take in light gasses through their bodies and the nucleus burns it to create energy. Even though they can consume harsh and heavy gasses, taking in too much with create a pool of gasses that rests at the bottom of their body. This will make them a bit more sluggish since they will have less space to obtain a healthy amount of light gasses. If the heavy gasses manage to make it to their nucleus, it will burn too fast and create a super nova and they will inevitably become a beast. Additionally, it is more common for an Obscura to starve, especially in well populated areas. This causes their bodies to become less opaque and for the gasses to stand out among each other. Communication

Other than by body language, Obscura can communicate by sending mental images, noises, etc to one another via telepathy. They can create different scenarios and think of places that they've seen and send them to other Obscura in an instant. While they aren't able to block images out, they can learn to ignore them. (Note: Deafened anatomy does not allow them to communicate via telepathy.)

They have a written languages, but like on Earth, it's different region to region.

Reproduction, Gender

All Obscura are genderless/sexless and have no sexual organs; therefore, they can not reproduce on their own. They do not have a gender binary, but they can look more masculine or more feminine. Names, pronouns, and gender representation are purely up for the owner to decide.

Relationships and Affection

Most relationships are based on mutual trust, they band together to keep each other happy and alive. This makes polyamory incredibly popular.

Obscuras can't mate or reproduce, but they can have romantic feelings for each other. If the said Obscura have good chemistry together and they touch, their membranes will do something akin to fusing. This causes their gas to leak through each other and cause semi-permanent discoloration. If they're really close, they'll be able to share each other's feelings and communicate from very far away.
